The assignment includes the construction of a new reception building, the restoration of the Vlaamse Hoeve, the construction of a new conservatory complex and the renovation of service buildings.
THE RECEPTION BUILDING
The walkway is conceived as a sequence of concrete columns in a T-shape, which are only 16 cm wide and prefabricated and transported in one piece.
The connecting beam (25 wide and 80 cm high) is also prefabricated and connects the T-beams with a wet knot. It provides longitudinal horizontal stability.
The reception building and shop are constructed from the same elements as the gallery. Several T-elements are placed side by side and connected by steel shoes. On these concrete elements, which also incorporate the rain drains, a wooden grating was applied. For this, an additional solid wooden nut beam was provided at the extremities of the T-elements. On the columns of T-pieces, recesses were provided on which the wooden furniture of the gallery and shop were sandwiched.
The gallery is strictly horizontal in design, while the Eredreef descends towards the castle. The floor of the gallery is cantilevered with respect to the columns of
the T-elements, creating a floating effect.
Further towards the centre of Meise there is a secondary entrance. This small reception building is freestanding, but elaborated entirely in the same train of thought as the main entrance with shop. Here too, you see the same sequence of concrete columns in a T-shape and connecting beams with the same dimensions, which were also prefabricated and transported in one piece.
